Is this some kind of new government investigative strategy? Wow, no one is immune from this economic downturn. Time to panic and start loading up on ammo because the world is coming to an end.
Anyway, sorry to make lite of your question. Obviously, I have no clue where it is and neither does Google. Sorry.

I believe REG 2 with to Phil Sharpe. REG 3 went to W.F. Traver, for what that's worth.
Regards,

Kevin, You could ask Roy if he has ever lettered the gun, but I have a hazy recollection of a "choir practice" conversation at one of our annual meetings some years ago between myself, Roy, Ray Cheely, Gary Garbrecht, etc., wherein we went down the list of the first doz., or so, RMs and opined as to where they were. I think # 3 was unknown, although a name like Traver should not be too hard to track with today's people locater software. (Choir Practice is were we gather at the local watering hole in the facility of our meeting, and preach S&W to each other. Each gun story is required to top the previous speaker's story!) Ed #15

Dave and Curtis,
Be careful about what you offer to buy. Even without Ray or Gary still around, you could be digging yourself a pretty deep hole with Ed and Roy.

Our little local group has "Choir Practice" every Fri. after work (for those still working). There are only two of us who are SWCA members, but all are shooters, collectors, hunters, in other words gun nuts. We all look forward to it all week long. There is often a little "show & tell" of the latest acquisition. Joe Kent always seems to have something really neat in the works.

FWIW, Reg. Mag. #3 was an 8 3/4" barrel gun shipped to W. F. Travers of Decatur, Illinois in April 1935. Hoover and Sharpe got the first two. Quoting from an old article out of Guns&Ammo by Roy Jinks.

A couple of years ago David Carroll was proud of knowing where #12 was hiding. But someone else stood up and had #8. These guns are still surfacing from time to time.
