Default Miss December 1956

S&W shipped 399 .44 magnums in December, 1956 making a total of 3095 for the entire year. This one, S153912, came my way over 11 years ago via the late Bill Powell while we were home in Texas on leave from Panama. Bill met me at a Pizza Hut in Midlothian, TX one afternoon and we swapped lies and money and guns that day in the cab of his 1 ton dually Ford pickup. Those of you who knew Bill can relate to that experience I'm certain. I was pleasantly surprised when the letter came back on the gun because it was shipped on my 6th birthday to a dealer in my home state. It doesn't get any better than that for me. A couple of us on this forum have first year 1956 birthday 44 mags thanks to Mr. Powell. This was also the time that I decided to get back into seriously collecting S&W after many years absence. This post also marks the end of my year- long posting of one 44 magnum for each month of 1956. I hope you folks have enjoyed looking at these first year 44 Mags as much as I have posting them.
Enjoy
Chuck

Shipping Dates by Month in Red.

Second month for the smooth dark blue presentation case.

Thanks for reminding me that I was born on a Friday, just like this revolver. (You calendar shows both its birthday as well as mine.)

Chuck,

Beautiful gun...as all of the calendar ladies have been!

Thanks for the memories of our friend Bill Powell. Wish I had been there to "bird dog" you two in Midlothian. Bill was a true "one of a kind". Sure miss him and his collections.

Bo

A fine and beautiful end to the year long posts Chuck! Thank you for sharing with us.

One request though. How about a few photo's of them all lined up, and maybe a running photo presentation of them, one right after the other, in order, before the years end?

Thanks again.
Tim

Chuck ,having been born in 1956, your postings have been bittersweet ,and have me longing for the mis-spent days of my youth.
ANd a birthyear 44 Magnum!

Thank you and congratulations on a stunning collection.

Merry Christmas , Allen Frame

Tim, I'll see what I can do, but the grandkids come first over my Christmas break.

It's been a "Fun" year seeing your collection...I appreciate it.....

I can't help but wonder if the kids you've mentored throught the years in Warwick, have any idea about this passion of yours? Do they know who it is they're dealing with? Your collection has proven absolutely a "One of a Kind!"

(Now, you're as old as me!)

J.C. thanks, I've enjoyed the past year putting the 12 on line. Some of my students over the years were aware I collect S&W. In 2006 Bill C. and I did a joint calendar commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 44 Magnum and I had one of those hung in my classroom. Every once in a while a kid would ask me about it and I'd talk about collecting firearms. Come to discover, many of those kid's fathers do too You aren't to good about keeping our age a secret JC

Regards and Merry Christmas to you and yours
Chuck

Chuck,
My daughters tease me about the thinning hair, the "couple" of added pounds, my "slightly" shrinking height, the added wrinkles, etc... My response; "I've earned every bit of it, won't change a thing!"

Well, this will have to do for now. I'lldo better at getting some new pictures as soon as the snow and work lets up.

Thanks Chuck.

That is simply amazing to see all those first year guns lined up like that. I doubt that we will see another project so well done like this here again.

Chuck,

Thanks for posting these all year long. The collection is something that would be nearly impossible to duplicate again.

I'm looking forward to being able to see them in Tucson this summer. They are magnificent.

Happy New Year!
