There is a problem with the piece. Sounds as if the hand where it fits into the trigger assembly has either been removed and then re-seated but without re-engaging the hand lever. If the hand is removed the hand lever drops down, its held in place by the hand stud that fits into the trigger assy. it needs to be brought up with a paper clip or similar strong wire with the hand removed, then once that is achieved re-seat the hand. Buy a copy of David Chicoines book Antique firearms assembly/disassembly page 325 should get you on the way if you can read a technical drawing. It sounds complicated, but in actual fact its a very simple process. Let us know how you get on.
You may even have to remove the rebound slide and spring if the wire does not do the trick. Then lift the lever up with a watchmakers screwdriver seat the hand and reinstall the slide and spring. That can be tricky.
If you are not confident then a gunsmith should be able to sort the problem in no time.
