Default .38 Military & Police Pics added as asked for ? K-22 & EARLY 38 SPEC

I am trying to find info on this old 22LR. It has a 6 in bbl ejector rod is not protected. The SN # is K 528xx and I think it is a 17 or a K-22. It also has the extra screw in the trigger guard maybe a 5 screw? Some time in the early 60's it was sent to Germany to an engraver and has about 80% coverage. I have compared it to a few engraved colt SAA that I could go look at and the engraving is near PERFECT. If I posted some pics could any one identify old engraving. Any info would help and any guesses on price. Thanks for your time.

This is the 38 I was asking about later in this thread. Thanks again.

Hi, by the serial number you have a 5-screw K-22 Masterpiece from 1948 (4 on the side plate with the stock panel off, and 1 on the trigger guard). After 1957 it was named the model 17.

A Forum member may recognize the style or type of engraving, but unless it is signed it seems unlikely the specific engraver can be identified. A good-quality engraving job will probably increase its value, but posting photos would help with answering your questions.

In order to recieve any estimates as to the value of the gun detailed photos would be needed. There are huge differences in quality and style of engraving.

I don't know much about engraving but your pictures indicate you have quite a beautiful gun there. What kind of grips did the owner put on this piece?

Default Grips

It still has the orignal diamond grips. Had them off cleaning it when I took the pics. Thanks

I believe this would be within the early run of pre-model 10's before they swtiched over to the C prefix. And nice engraving there, are you trying to price it to sell?

P.S. Thanks for the model 59 nickel box. I hope your sorting of stuff is going well. Daniel.

Quite a few handguns turn up that were engraved in Germany. There were some talented artists working there but I don't think their names are known on this continent.

It's a .38 Military & Police, probably made in 1945 or 1946. The factory had just switched from Victory Model wartime production when your gun was made. We demand photos of this one be posted as well

A 6" .38 Military & Police as discussed previously. It should have the serial number mentioned on the barrel flat (near the ejector rod), the rear cylinder face and the inside of the right stock panel. Nice gun!

So in this case are we saying that a .38 M&P is the same as a pre-model 10, right? Not trying to argue just trying to get it clear for my own understanding and limited experience. Thanks.
