Default 1937 Brazilian question

Here are a couple of my old warhorses. An early 1917 #10xx
that shoots quite well in spite of a barrel bulge, and a 1937
Brazilian #189xxx. The 1937 has a well polished blue-black
finish that looks to be original. Both guns are matching. I had
thought that the 1937's all had the flat top frame and blue
finish but there is one on Auction Arms, item #9594324 that
has a 1917 type frame, grips and a somewhat dull finish. It is
listed as matching and original. So I suppose it would be a
rare early variation?

This is just my observation of a few 1937’s I was considering buying back when a batch had just been imported in the mid 90’s but I doubt round toped ones are rare because that the only variety that I handled. I remember because I decided against buying at the low prices only because those small “U” notches are so hard for me to use. If I had known the square notch variety existed I would have bought one.

There was a 2nd batch of 1917's sold to Brazil in 1946. S&W found a batch of original 1917's with round top receivers in the plant, and made up a new batch for Brazil. I have one, 5 1/2" barrel, which shipped Apr. 1946.
