Default Tricked up Victory - added Wondersight

I had picked up a Victory Model (lettered to US Navy) that had been refinished in blue. I picked it up before I knew what I was doing, but that is another story.

Anyway, I ended up actually liking the gun in blue (I have two others in Black Magic) and since it wasn't original I added a set of early Diamond T's that I had from another gun and then I just today added a Wonder Sight!
In shooting this gun before adding the sight if I lined the sights up like you should it would shoot about 3 inches low, now with the Wonder Sight I should be able to line the front sight across the rear ones and have it on target.
I think this will be a fun gun to shoot with the new sights.

Sharp and practical, Ben. I added a Wondersight to my converted .455 HE 2nd and the difference in sight picture alone was worth the price.

Those sights are neat. I've heard of them but never seen one before. Thanks for posting.

Question F.D.L. Wondersight...

Ben,

Is that one of the newer Wondersights?

The one I put on my first 1917 nearly 30 years ago looks similar but the mounting screw is different.... Not a knurled screw as you show, but rather a plain machine screw.

Those are some nice photos and I have been thinking about a Wondersight for my M&P. I have looked at them on hpmold's website and I can't figure how he can make such a nice sight for $38.

I can't really tell, but is the rear sight notch on the Wondersight the same size as the fixed sight notch in the frame?

If it is the same size (which seems narrow to me), does the large flat surface of the sight blade make it not as noticeable?

My 55 year old eyes need a little help when shooting the M&P, and I was curious if this might be the way to go about it (I'm spoiled by the sight picture on my K-.22 and 14-3). Thanks.

The large knurled knob is a new feature on the wondersights, they do have them for the older ones.

I like the sights on my Sigma, line up the dots

The sight picture on the wondersight is larger than the one on the gun. On my Victory, the front blade is a little shinny so that it shows up well in the black of the rear sight.
It is well made, there are a couple extra parts that came with it, one is a different plate for between the sight and the frame, also an allen wrench for a different screw (smaller) you can use, I guess depending on the gun.

I hope to shoot it tonight

I may try this on my 1917 as well, the one I got is a shooter, the original finish is gone and has a patina that almost looks like parkerizing, I like it.

I am thinking of trying Trail Boss in my 1917, it is a lower pressure powder and for plinking may be good, I have to load some up this weekend.

That's a neat sight. How exactly does it attach to the frame? Was there an existing hole or did you have to have a gunsmith drill & tap a new one?

with the Victory's (pre model 10's) 5 screw frames there was a screw at the top of the sideplate. The manufacturer provides a screw that fits in that hole precisely, I let him know it was a WWII Victory model.

In the directions it talks about Colt's (ugh) and revolvers without a screw up there making the spot and drilling and taping. Which even on a Colt I wouldn't want to do.

Just got back from the range, I am in love!
I got an email from Andy Evans who makes the Wonder Sights and when he looked at the pictures he said I had it set too high, it would shoot way high.
The first target was my shooting groups of 3 and working my way down to the bull at 50 feet. He was right it was high I was also off on windage a bit, I dialed in the windage and worked my way down the target.
I have taken an old WWII Victory fixed sight revolver and made a target gun out of it! I am going to get a set for my 1917 as well! and maybe an extra set for the Victory or one of my other Victory's.
Andy's address is Mailbox Machinist P.O. Box 1090 Philomath Or 97370-1090 you can email him at [email protected]
Check out the ad at hollowpointmold.com

I am very impressed with the quality and how well it shoots!

Secpnd target was 12 shots at the target before I left
