Mike, What year do you date this catalog? Or is it a catalog that was issued over a several year span? ( I'm assuming it is a portion of the larger Herrett's catalogs that were dated.) Ed.

It is from 1963 or very soon after. That is the year general use of the ZIP code was mandated. With those prices it couldn't be a lot later than that.

Before Fred has given us the date of the these catalogs, I had emailed
Herretts, asking if they knew the date. Here is that interchange:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From: [email protected]
To: [email protected]
Subject: Date of a catalog
Date: Fri, 12 Mar 2010 18:16:19 -0800
I have a Herretts catalog with 9-344 on the cover. What is the approximate date of this catalog ?
Thanks, Mike Priwer [email protected]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Mr. Priwer:
I am sorry, but I don't actually know what the date of your catalog would be. We
haven't done a new catalog for many years so I would say it is pretty old. Sorry I
can't give you a more exact date.
Sincerely,
Robin
Herrett's Stocks, Inc.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They were very nice to respond. I will let them know the mailing date of the catalog.
Regards, Mike Priwer

Old ones
I have a pair of Shooting Stars that I bought in about '66, I believe from Gander Mountain and my memory thinks I only gave $11.00 for them. I have them on an "L" frame, 586, now. I've since picked up two more pair for "N" frames. Some of my favorite aftermarket stocks!

I traced my hand, sent the check, and got a set of Shooting Stars
in the mid 70s. I still have the catalog --- somewhere.

I remember wanting a pair of Herrett's grips for my Python back in 1971 when it was the most expensive gun by far I had ever purchased.
I sent an order off for a pair of the "Trooper" grips with all the options--extra fancy wood, fine-line checkering, etc. Cost a lot of 1971 dollars.
The grips--after a long delay--came in and they were dog poop. Wretched checkering, undistinguished wood, poor fit to gun, thin finish. I was too young and stupid to send them back for a refund; wound up selling the gun with those grips when I finally got smart enough to realize how much better a S&W 27 was than a weak-actioned Python.
