An OLDIE, but a GOODIE!!!!
I bought this old beauty in Texas many years ago, at a flea market. Paid $150.0 if I remember. I hate to admit it but I can shoot this .38 better that any semi-auto that I have ever owned, and I am a 1911 collector!!!!

I have always been better with a revolver!! Years ago, I had the opportunuty to mount the S&W in a Ransom Rest. At 30 feet , it put all 6 rounds in a hole you could cover with a quarter.... Shazam!!!!

The top Colt, 2600270, I brought back from Vietnam after it saved my butt!!

Great revolver and yes they are a blast to shoot. I'm not a 1911 collector but have a couple of my own. Ones a Colt Government reworked by Ickey Starks at Sports West and the other is a Custom Norinco 1911 built for me by Ikey.

Now you need the 22 version. I picked these up off GunBroker about 5 years back for $135 (38) and $265 (22).

Hey John,
Welcome! You need to dump some of those M1911's (on me!) and get some of these:
Regards,
Kevin Williams

John-
Weren't you here some years ago?
Nice guns. For what it's worth, when I was in the USAF, almost all men carryng a handgun could shoot the .38's better than the .45 auto. I'm sure that recoil was a factor, but the looser tolerances on service-grade .45's was also an issue.
I was shocked to find that if I took a two-handed seated position, I could use the .38 to shoot better groups at 25 yards than I could with the .30 carbine.

John, it pleases me to read your name in this forum! I spoke to you a few times at the WACA gun show in Puyallup (although it's been at least five years since I've been there), and you were kind enough to tell me the amazing story of how that 1911 saved your life (and that Captain) in Vietnam.
I'm happy that you're still active, and thank you for posting on this forum. I look forward to many more from you. And thank you for your service.

John post the pixs of the Navy's you have thrown back & the .38 Supers
John keeps digging out superb .45's , Navy revolvers & autos out of the hills, then posting some of the best pix too, his collection is as nice as Johnny Pepper's.
I drool whenever he or Johnny get back from a gunshow roadtrip & post pix.
be safe, enjoy life, journey well John

If anyone is interested, here is the story....
If You're Serious, Get A .45! The Colt M1911A1 in Combat
This is a photo of me with the infamous M16A1 that now rests on the bottom of the Go Cong River in 'Nam.
(I have proven very hard to KILL)

John, that's an amazing story. Thank you for your service to our nation.
An old Colt 45 ACP was the first handgun I ever shot and Dad had to help me hold it the first time. Beautiful collection you have. I only have a couple but love them about as much as the S&W revolvers. A truly great gun.

Mr Holbrook, as fellow member of the 1911 board, it is great to see you here too. I have enjoyed your photos ( and lusted after several of the pistols pictured) for a long time.
Welcome, and keep the photos and stories coming.

Great link, Chief! Another hint that the 1911 is the best mud-and-the-blood-and-the-beer pistol ever made.

Doesn't surprise me in the least...
Those are some nice pieces of history you have. I'm guessing that any story of combat at handgun range is a hairy one.
EDIT: Yikes. Just read the story. I was right.

Thanks Chief, and here is the Colt. When I left Vietnam, the squadron sent an A3 into Da Nang to pick me up, so I just stuck the Colt into my Nav Bag and off we went to the ship.
I have not fired the Colt since 'Nam, however it is in perfect working order in case I need it again!!!!
