Victory Models
The police department where I work (not as a LEO) has recently found three cases of Smith & Wesson Victory model revolvers. During WWII the city in question had several shipyards and the PD had an auxillary force that worked as guards.
It appears that the revolvers are still in the original crates and and in an unissued condition.
The current sentiment is to melt them down and make a small statue for peace.

Somebody in that city needs to start a communications campaign about destroying classic works of art!

Dan, I agree, YOU need to start a campaign to save those Victorys. What a waste it would be to melt them down plus the loss of town history.

Sure, that's the thing to do.Ugh.Liberal politicos forgetting that government is a business-that the right thing to do with an asset is realizing value, value that could be used to reduce the town deficit, add to a policeman's fund, or a myriad of beneficial things of actual value to the community.

I HATE April 1st!
But since you say it isn't a joke...
In these tight financial times - tell them all the good the money they will get by selling them could do for the dept.
Maybe a new radar gun... (and all the money it will generate)
More practice ammo...
Brighter flashing lights...
tell them SOMETHING!
Take care,
Bob S.

pigirondan,
PLEASE, contact the NRA legal dept. for advice & supply them with specific info. as to who & where the guns are.
The guns are technically still GOV property & should be returned for proper disposition. (probably thru the civilian marksmanship program)

In the San Francisco Bay Area there were several ship yards. This city in question made Liberty and Victory ships.

I'm not sure how many were in a "case", but if a dozen, and 3 cases, at a conservative $400 each would be $14,400. I wonder how much equipment that would buy for that city.

Maybe you could act as the middle man and get them donated to the new Springfield History Museum in Springfield MA. Maybe have them contact Roy Jinks.
Just a thought.

Lib mentality is to destroy all guns and if you need more money just levy a new tax. The money that could be raised with the sale if these could definately be put to good use for this police department, but unfortunately where we see treasure they see evil.

Its sad that lib mentality is what it is; however, you can't really blame them, it seems to be a genetic condition. They absolutely cannot understand reason and/or facts.

If these guns are in California, remind the City that it is illegal for a Police Dep't in Calif. to destroy a military firearm before they are reviewed by the Calif. Military Museum in Sacramento, unless the gun was used in a felony as evidence and the felon was convicted. The California National Guard Adjutant General's Office must approved any disposal that involves the destruction of the guns.

Destruction of those revolvers would be a pure act of wanton vandalism. You cannot destroy history just because you dont like some of the tools used to write that history. Auction them and put the money to good use.

Funny how the calendar changes everything.
But that's the nature of this forum: even in the midst of a great gag, you learn something, like opoefc's post.
