Default Is it accurate to say the K-22 is the "original" masterpiece?

The roots of the adjutable sight revovlers seem to be the old K-38 Targets and K-22 Outdoorsmen, but is the K-22 sort of the "genesis" of the Masterpieces?

You may be trying to put too fine a point on this.
S&W made Target revolvers back in the Top-Break days of the 1870's.

Other models like the Bekeart and the SS/Rev combos precede the K-22/40 by decades. The 32 HE-1st Model was available with adjustable sights in 1896.

All that said, the K-22/40 was the first gun named "Masterpiece". So, yes.
