Default Smith and Wesson Factory Letter

I have a Smith and Wesson 22/32 Kit Gun, blue, 4 inch, with bird's head target stocks (same as those seen on the Bekeart on page 117 of the Standard Catalog 3rd edition). I have no box. It is all original and a 99% gun, being near mint, in my view. I acquired it over 30 years ago from the grand daughter of a long time Smith collector from Washington State. He gave it to her, and I traded several more 'practical' shooters to her for it.

I would like to 'letter' the gun but don't know the procedure to do so. Candidly, my brief research has shown it is of considerable value and I am considering selling it to someone who would appreciate it more than I.

I have never fired it, trading for it due to it's age and condition. The serial number is 533xxx which makes it, I believe, roughly 1938 vintage.

I would appreciate any info members could provide on the procedure to obtain a letter on the gun. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you have a very nice Kit Gun! Here is a link on the Smith & Wesson Collectors Association web page with a Microsoft Word letter request form to send to the factory for Mr. Roy Jinks:

I'd love to see a picture or two of it, if possible!

Bet yours looks a lot like this, except for the stocks:

Expect a PM.

"I'd love to see a picture or two of it, if possible!"

Or three!

Good luck on your research.

Thanks to all for the information I requested for obtaining a letter on my 22/32 Kit Gun. I will move forward as time permits.

Since becoming a forum member, I have gained considerable knowledge on the firearms I have owned and currently possess. Members are not only considerably more knowledgeable than I am or thought I was, but after a few years of periodic viewing, I have determined that most are genuinely interested in the possessions of others.....an unselfish trait in this day and age.

What I enjoy most is viewing the photos of the collections of other members. It is clearly the photos that make this forum the best of the bunch. Yet, while I continue to add commentary and describe my personal arms, I have only once provided a single set of thumbnails on a recent K-38 I acquired. It is about time I got off my duff and threw in a few. I can see mine at any time, so my motivation to share has not been high. I would much rather view others..

I will be traveling the next several weeks but upon my return, I will provide photos of my 22/32. However, there is no doubt I will be unable to duplicate the quality of the photos provided by Mr. Wilson (and others) over the short term. Beside the information I asked for on the letter, I will be requiring f-stop and shutter speed details at a later date.

Mr. Wilson, thanks for your informative and comprehensive PM. Knowledge is power.....ignorance has never been bliss!
