Default Please help identify an old revolver

I inherited an old S & W revolver from my dad. It is .32 S&W long caliber, and it has about a 4 inch barrel. The serial number is 203256. I do not plan to sell it, but I would like to know it's approximate age and if it has any value. It functions fine, but most of the finish is gone. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advence. JW

Welcome! If the SN is from the bottom of the grip frame, it is a .32 Hand Ejector; if it is on the front of the grip frame it is a .32 Regulation Police. It was probably shipped in the early - to mid-1910 decade. As you describe it, it is probably a $150-200 gun. Hope this is helpful.

Welcome to the forum.

I agree with everything Alan said. The # is too low to be a Regulation Police, so it's a hand ejector with a round butt. The barrel is 4 1/4" to the front face of the cylinder.
Be sure and shoot it, you'll enjoy it.
Ammo is still available and safe to shoot in it.

Welcome to the Forum. I shoot mine regularly and ammo is available for $15 a box. Federal makes wadcutters and PPU makes round nose ammo. This is not a popular caliber today and most online ammo stores have them in stock.

I have been trying to buy more 32 Long Hand Ejectors recently, and can not find them for under $250. One speciman sold for $225 yesterday and it was so worn that half the S&W log was rubbed off, plus had an overall rough surface. After auction fees and shipping, it will cost the new owner $300! Maybe this is the effect of recent talks about gun control, but it would have sold for under $150 a year ago.

Thanks to all who replied. I had no idea that it was that old. By the way, it has an amazingly good trigger. JW
