Siegfried Rentschke - Master Engraver: looking for info and examples
Does anyone have illustrations, or even better yet actual examples (for which you can provide photos), of guns engraved by Siegfried Rentsche?
My understanding is that he was employed by Smith & Wesson and by Winchester. Also, that he was influenced by Rudolph Kornbrath.
I would like to see examples of his work so that I can compare them to the engraving on my Pre-29.
Hello splhcb - I just registered for this forum because, as it happens, Siegfried Rentzschke is my neighbor. I assume you hope to confirm whether he engraved your S&W, right?
If you would like to send me any photos of your engraved piece, please feel free. I'm willing to show them to the old engraver and see what happens.
I am also looking for examples of Siegfrieds work and would like to contact the neighbor who posted. This is my first post and so not totally familiar with how the forum works. Thanks for any help.
Great name by the way. I have quite a few hours in Cessna's. I am interested in a Winchester Model 12 shotgun that was apparently engraved by Siegfried Rentschke. This thread is a bit old and I don't know if he is still your neighbor but if he is, I'd be happy to send you some photos for him to take a look at.
Upon receipt of further information, I believe that Doc44 has confirmed that neither of the two above referenced 44 Mags were engraved by Mr. Rentzschke (Bill, please confirm if I got this wrong).
I know this is an old thread, but I just got a letter back confirming my belief that all three of these were in fact engraved by Siegfried Rentzschke:
5-Screw Pre-27 shipped in April 1959 to J.S. Oshman Co. in Houston, TX:
4-Screw Pre-27 shipped in July 1959 to J.S. Oshman Co. in Houston, TX:
Model-marked 27 shipped in December 1959 to John Hayes in Bedford, MA:
It is interesting to me that all three engraved 357 Mag's, with different engineering changes/model #'s, shipped in 1959. It was a good year for engraved Smith & Wessons.
One more example (a Model 41) from a Spring 2005 Julia Auction photo:
