M&P S Prefix Transitional 5 inch
Picked this up a couple days ago. I'm very pleased with it. Very clean and in good mechanical shape. I believe it was made in 47. Serial number is S964XXX. As you can see it has only the Made in USA on the right hand side of the frame and the long action. The grips don't have the same serial number but everything else matches. I've been wanting a nice older M&P with a 5" barrel. I was hoping this was a pre-war model, but hey I'll take a transitional S model. I paid $300.00 for it at a local pawn shop.

Nice gun. Priced right. Maybe more like 1948 though. Enjoy!

Thats a nice one at a good price. I have a five inch mid fifty's M&P that I really like and is a great shooter. Enjoy!

Thanks. Several years ago when I was just getting into Smith & Wesson revolvers (and learning about them as well as others) I was surprised to learn about five inch barrels. I only knew about four inch and six inch tubes. I thought it would be neat to own a five inch barreled S&W but never found one for sale. In the past year I've gotten a 5" Heavy Duty (Mfd. 1937) and now this M&P. I like the five inch versions.

Nice revolver, and the grips look to be from the same era... I like 5 inchers too!

Dang, that's real nice.
A few years ago I made a deal for a nickel 29. With it came a nicely crafted basketweave holster made by a local saddle and boot maker, but it wasn't for the 29. Later I learned that the previous owner carried a 5" Model 10 in it when he was a deputy sheriff in the 1960's-70's and that the nickel 29 was his "court gun." I've been searching for the right Model 10 for this holster ever since.
I'm a big fan of transition period S&W's. You have exactly what I'm looking for. Nice score!

Gila Bender-
A very nice gun at a very nice price, IMHO. I'm extremely envious.
Respectfully,
Mike Q.
P.S. - You handled the 27-2 transfer for me at the Tucson SWCA meeting. Hope to see you again soon.
