Three Pre-War M&P's
Some Pre-war M&P's, the nickel one is from the 1930's. The middle one is from the 1920's as I recall. Both of those are 38 Special. The top one is a 22 Outdoorsman from the 1930's.
One of these days I'll learn how to do pictures - take them & post them.

I do not have pictures of all of them but this is one of my favorites.
An M&P 2nd Model (1902) which has a serial number that precedes the earliest one recorded in SCSW and History of Smith and Wesson.

My 2.
This one is from about 48 or 49 serial number c10876
This one I believe is a 53 model. Serial number c245861.
She has a lot of wear on the right side stock. Looks like a
lot of hands on while in a holster. Maybe a police gun that
got handled a lot on duty.

Time to bring this back to the top with my new early post-war "S" prefix M&P.

This M&P (Model 1905 4th change) dates from 1923, and is in excellent shape. It has a 6" barrel.

Here's mine, I thought a family pic would be appropriate. The four and six-inch members of the M&P family are still out there somewhere. I didn't want the 32-20 HE to feel left out.
First is a six-inch 32-20 HE, I'm waiting on a letter for this one.
Second is a five-inch M&P C 103XXX range
Last is a two-inch M&P C 146XXX range

Here's one of my "fun" favorites.... M&P model of 1905, 1st or 2nd Change. These models were made between 1906-1909.
I did have this one lettered and Roy indicated that is was originally manufactured with a 6" barrel and could be a transition from the
1st to the 2nd change.
It has the ".38 S&W Special & U.S. Service Ctg's" stamping on the barrel. It was shipped January 2, 1908 to the
Belknap Hardware Company, Louisville, KY. It has a star on the butt; and went back to the factory on 5/14.

Linda,
Very nice composition - I love the "dead man's hand."
My grandfather's Model of 1902 M&P was also shipped to Belknap Hardware in Louisville, in 1904. He may have purchased it there, as he was a resident in Kentucky at the time.
It's pretty beat up now; he evidently gave it very hard use. He packed it in the shoulder holster shown here as a dry goods store owner.

John, thanks for the kind words. It's such an ugly duckling, I had to get real creative. It was originally shipped with checkered diamond grips which are now smooth from wear. The grips in the image are from one of the forum members... I thought they went great with the "8's & Aces" !
The shot of your 1902 looks great! I like "studio" shots, but especially with the oldies that have that "been there, done that" look, you have to do something different.

This was my grandfathers revolver from when he was a sheriffs deputy in the 1930s. I don't know much about it other than it appears to be a model 1905 4th change. It seems to have a good amount of holster wear and is loaded with some very old looking bullets that read Peters 38 S&W SPL, probably a good indication of the last time it was fired.

My M&P(or should I say model 1905 4th change? Ser#760xxx was given to me by my uncle. It belonged to his father-in-law who was a Well Fargo bank detective. still shoots pretty darn good. Tiny bit of holster wear right at the end of the barrel. By chance can somebody tell the date of this weapon?

1950 M&P. This is the gun that got me back into accumulating S&W revolvers. It has been downhill, so to speak, since then.

This is not my nicest one but it is my most interesting.
A model 1902 with a lower S/N than reported as the start of the series by Neil & Jinks and Supicia & Nahas in their books. I've been meaning to get it lettered.

My first handgun, my pops bought it off a guy at work, even came in a great old duty holster. It had a 6" barrel which was bulged in two spots, I later lost it in a move. Serial is C 640, stocks are original, but need some love. Great gun, in the dozen years I've owned it I've shot thousands of rounds through it, now it's time for a refurb, just having to wait, can't find any cheap 6" barrels!

Here's my only pre-Model 10.
I rescued it at the LGS for the princely sum of $145 (although the cash price was $135). Posted a "should I buy it thread" after I found it. The gun dates to around 1948.
Lots of wear to the finish, but it cleaned up nicely and shoots like a champ. Lockup is surprisingly good. The gun was absolutely filthy and was full of petrified WD40 and the exterior had some surface rust. I cleaned the heck out of it, and 0000 steel wool & CLP took care of the exterior problems.
It has a weird aftermarket hammer that looks nickel-plated (now flaking) and the spur is a shallow angle compared to the stock hammer. No clue where it came from.
Was going to have reblued, or refinished in hard chrome, but kinda like it as-is, so will probably keep it that way. The stocks are some Altamont rosewoods that I had and put on it because I couldn't stand the old Pachmayrs it came with. I'm toying with the idea of getting some well-worn diamond magnas for it because they would fit the look of the gun nicely.

I've got 3 Pre-Model M&P .38s.
First is my snub from the 1920s with a nose job and recently acquired pearl stocks.
Next is my 1920's .38 M&P Target.
Finally, but not least nor the last, my .38 snub from 1948.

1946 M&P
This is my new [to me] 4" barrel M&P. By the serial number, S 8734xx I believe it shipped in 1946. The seller just had the trigger tuned and threw in a set of K frame target grips and a holster.
This is actually the first gun I've ever bought, (inherited a few). This is also my first handgun.

I may as well throw mine in.
It is an S serial numbered 46 gun too.
Very Different front sight and adjustable rear one.
Has Roper stocks......see buying a gun for the stocks...LOL
I did send for a letter on it.
Probably wasted 50 bucks but something about the previous owner marrying a Gagne said do it.

My "new to me" pawn shop find from just last week. Pre 10, S/N C 96XX from 1948?? Looks a lot better in person, bad cell phone pic's. Grips are numbered to gun and look as though they saw a lot of holster time.
