Here's an old one from around 1950. . .picked it up last year for $250 and was really pleased. I have a lot of the pre M10's but this is my only snub.

Here is one I picked up at a local gun show. This is a matching number Pre-Mod 10. It is a nice revolver and a 1948 vintage.

Mine from around 1946. Just got the Tyler T Grip about a month ago. Was my great grandfather's service revolver. I can't get a decent photo out of my iphone no matter what!

My most recent M & P acquisition is very pre-10, placed by serial number around mid-1923 (thanks to DWalt).

I'm one of those weird people who don't particularly care for pristine guns, but actively look for guns with lots of service wear (as opposed to neglect or abuse), and sometimes actually pay more for a gun with an interesting marking or inscription.

I'm hoping the letter will show the gun shipped to the department (unlikely) or a gun store in M., so I'll know with which P.D. Officer Green served. It's probably not a major metropolis since this does not look like an official department marking.

Iron Claw, what can you say? Center one is S serial numbered, in service from 8-5-46 until 1-1-74. The one on the right is a C serial number, issued on 7-14-49 returned 9-17-63, issued again 12-27-63 through 9-28-68.

After being a member here for nearly 10 yrs, I just recently picked up my first M&P. It has plenty of wear but it is still a nice carry piece, kinda old school sexy. C636** so I am assuming '49 range. Please pardon the GB pics, I haven't had time to take any decent pics of my own.

Just out of curiosity: How did you manage to get this kind of detailed information? Most of the time I can't even get ahold of anyone in a department who remembers what they issued 20 years ago

Pics not so great but here's mine. Inherited from dad. History/provenance not known. All I remember is that he had a similar gun in 38 S&W. He traded that gun for this 38 Special model. Sometime in the 60's if I'm recalling correctly. To my eyes it appears original although I doubt it came with those grips.

The double action is about as smooth an action that I've ever experienced on a revolver.

This is my only contribution. I have posted this gun before. According to Mr. Jinks, this one left the factory July 1906. It is an early 4 screw, square butt frame, target with a 5" barrel. I am told this is a relatively rare piece. While not a 95%+ condition gun, it is in very good shape for 109 years old and obviously being used. It still shoots very well using 148 gr wadcutters and 2.5 gr of bullseye.
The gun was wearing an incorrect set of convex grips when I bought it. It took 8 months of searching to come up with the nicely refinished set of period correct concave grips.

The nickel M&P shipped in May 1907.

The blued M&P Shipped in April 1924 and was used by Philadelphia Police Officer William A. Dever. The opposite side of the gun (not shown) is engraved "W. A. Dever"

Here are my only 2 M&Ps.

A 1917 shipped M&P Target with Kings rear sight blade and gold bead front. And a standard type 1950s 4" M&P. They were acquired this past year, so this seemed like a good place to post some pics.

C series 4" 5 Screw. Serial dates it to 1949 or so. C1804XX gun has somewhat of a cool history because it was used as a competition gun for the police shooting team. Obviously has a new front sight and also the rear sight has a v notch

Shoots great but has some were from being in and out of the holster a lot.

Hey Doc, actually the 1899 model was S&W's introduction of the 38 Special round. This 1899 38 S&W Special shipped around 1901.

Delivered Jan 5, 1900.
SN 7xx.
Dad put the target grips seen in the photo on it sometime in the 50s.

Here is what I've collected over the past year. Spans 1914 thru 1947. Some aren't too pretty but honest wear is OK with me. A couple are wearing incorrect grips but that will be addressed in the near future.

This is a great old thread.

Here is my 1905 3rd change M&P from about 1911, the front sight was pinned with a wide blade and the rear sight channel was widened for it. I believe it was a factory order because it's all factory bright blue. There is very little cylinder ring and it's unfired, the best I can tell:

And here is a 1902 model 1st change, M&P, shipped about 1904. Square butt, 5" barrel and target model. It's had some use & someone carved an L ln the numbered stocks. But it's as tight as a the day it shipped:

So this just happened today. Added a 3rd Model of 1905, 4th Change snubby. Was being sold as a Model 10, but knew better than that.

Lots of great guns here in this thread. Think it's great to drag some of the good ones and bring them back to light.

1915 M&P 3rd Change. This one has a couple of "handling marks" and very minor freckling on the side plate, but appears to be unfired.

M&P from 1948. All original except the barrel, but the work was very well done. The long barrel is like a laser.

Edit: I have a neat TylerT on it now.
