Actually, Dan has a 2d Model box with the "1926" stamped on it to signify which model it was. S&W did the same thing with the Heavy Duty when they stamped the end and the inside lid "38-44"

Look familiar to me too, also on a couple of guns Hamilton built for me, one a 45 LC built on a 520 that had been ridden hard and put away wet. Dave

I don't know about that. Not trying to say you're wrong. But I had a first model (Triple Lock) that came to me in an identical box, except it had an end flap printed "Nickel". Yes, the gun was nickel. It went to David Carroll, who didn't even look confused. I'm going to toss out the idea that they used the same boxes for those guns over a long period of time.
I agree the hinge ID's prewar. Same color box as a 2 piece was early postwar.
S&W also used M&P boxes for K22s early in the production, like sub 638,500 at least (I only use that as an example because I have one in that range.) Its one way you can tell a later marriage of an early K22 in a red box.

I am with rburg on the box issue, these are the only style box I have ever seen for the 1926's but that has only been a few so my limited experience is not much.
As far as the Ivory grips in the picture those were from around 3 years ago and I sold those a couple years ago.
Mike i have all the Ivory I need right now thanks
Dan
