Hi
This is for all you Registered Magnum collectors out there. The information below is for Registered Magnum serial number 58685 Reg. # 4710 shipped on May 5, 1939 and delivered to John H. Nunn of the Texas Highway Patrol.
This revolver is a 4 inch Nickel model and was one of only 29 made in 4 inch and Nickel.
Mr. Nunn was a member of the Texas Highway Patrol for 11 years. He was elected Sheriff of Carson County in 1954 where he served until 1976 a total of 22 years. Mr. Nunn,s service was the longest time in Carson County for a Sheriff.
This revolver is in 98% condition and has the orginal numbered grips.

It may be sacrelige to say this, but I am not that interested in the registered magnums, at least, not like most here. I do like that one though. Thanks for posting such a rare and fine looking handgun.

Just Wonderful!! I also like the fact that the factory letter even gives the "brand" of ammunition used to sight it in. Even though there were 29 produced, I'd hazzard to guess I won't see another one. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful rare gun and great story. He must have been a gun guy to take that good care of it all those years and it still looks great today. Glad to see it made it into good hands.

Great revolver and history. I always enjoy one with the background and owner attached. Since my parents were raised in Texas, I have a special fondness of the lone star state.

the Uniforms were worn from the 30,s until after the war. I also posted a Write up about John on the first page.

You most certainly should get a letter on your Nickel RM. The price of the factory letter is $50 and you can download the form here: Smith & Wesson Collectors Association

The holster and belt for that revolver are currently on display in Panhandle, the County seat of Carson County. I took some pictures of it and sent them to who I believed was a previous owner, don't know if he ever got them. You interested?

That is a great looking rig. Those old Texas lawmen had some real class. Talk about "Officer Presence" being the first level of force, they had it in spades.

Nice story and a sweet wheel gun. Up here in the north not many citizens know who the county sheriff is. They are politicians with badges. Down south the Sheriff is well know. Hope the Sheriif has a well earned retirement and that Reg.Magnum gets shoot some.

Hi Jim, The entire package is great. As Saxon said, It doesn't look like there is much if any wear on it. Did he carry it at all?

based on the gun I would say that he used it for special functions
the grips do no show wear on the right side as would be the case if it was a duty gun
Nickel is very hard to tell on wear because they wear really well.
he must have been a pretty knowleble gun person because in 1938
it was a lot of money for a carry revolver compared to a 38/44
or a 1926 44 spec..
