Model 1905 H.E. Target
I am planning to go to a Gun show in Harrisburg, PA towards the end of this month.I am thinking of taking my Model 1905 H.E. Target to sell, I know, I must be nuts. I would appreciate it if someone could give me an idea as to what the value is, what would be a fair price to ask. It is in Beautiful shape, all stampings are crisp and blueing is Beautiful. I emailed S&W awhile back and they told me it was made in 1927. Any guidence would be very much welcomed.

Do the grips number to the gun?Looks like a nice piece.I'd say value around $950 to $1000 with the chip in the right grip panel.

Very nice, too bad about the chipped stock, but I don't think it's a real price detractor because the revolver is excellent overall. Gun shows are what they are though, everyones looking to "steal" it. I'd say at auction $1,000.00 would be realistic, but at a gun show I'd price it a bit higher to allow for a little negotiation. Beautiful example. Thank you for posting the photos and I wish you the best of luck.
Cheers;

Edited to add;
BTW, I would not be surprised if one of our fellow FORUM members wouldn't like to own that revolver, stand by for PM's galore. Or post it in the classifieds section of the FORUM? Any collector here knows what they are and what they're worth.

Where is Harrisburg?
I didn't realize there was a gun show this month. Is it at the Farm Show or where? Thanks.

Beautiful gun. Whoever ends up buying it will be a lucky person indeed.

Several points to ponder---------------------------
If you sell it to a dealer at a gun show, you're going to get the wholesale value (let's say 60% of retail)------or less. If you sell it to an individual hanging around outside (or inside), you're likely to get haggled to death! That's all well and good if you have the patience for such things----I don't. The gun will bring substantially more with the stocks repaired. Kurt Vogler ("Hammerdown") can very likely repair them such that you'd be hard pressed to notice it. (You may wish to consider postponing the sale until they're repaired.) You'll get more selling it on Gun Broker (or whatever) than you're likely to get at a gun show----other than perhaps Las Vegas. Your gun appears to be the standard finish. I showed one of mine with the "bright blue" finish to David Carroll two years ago----and asked him what it was worth----------$2,000. (!!!) The condition of mine (as new) was perhaps very slightly better than yours (as near as I can tell)-------but not enough to talk about. It seems unlikely the difference in value between standard finish and "bright blue" amounts to the difference in values we've seen here. Bottom Line: I'd be tickled to death to buy a gun like yours for $1,000, but I'll be damned if I'd sell it for $1,000-------and that's not an offer---I already have 11 of them---as in: Some's good, more's better, and too much is just right!!

Well to be truthful I was thinking of asking $1400.00 since less than 10 percent were target models and considering that it is in beautiful condition I don't think it's outrageous.

It's not even close to outrageous----------and I've been told that approximately 2% were targets------which I grant you is less than 10%!

Really? Wow, maybe I should leave it at home. I also have a 10" flattop Ruger 44 mag that I was thinking of taking down also since the Ruger Collectors Assc. will be there too. I was going to talk it just to get an idea what it was worth, but I'm afraid it will be too much temptation.

Okay, I can speak to that too! The prevailing wisdom today has the 10" at $1,825. That would be for a 95% example. The same prevailing wisdom adds 25% for a 99-100% example. I have an as new one I bought probably ten years ago for $1,750-------which was way too much then; but goes to prove the old adage that it is not possible to pay too much for a good gun. It is possible to pay whatever you pay too soon. The remedy is to do nothing---just sit and wait.

And if we get in trouble for talking about these off-brand guns, just remember----it's all your fault!!!

Now that is not too shabby!!! They'd have been chasing you up and down the aisles if you had taken that to the gunshow!

Yeah, thats what I'm afraid of, lol. I would be tooo tempted to sell. I really want to hang on to the Flattop. Maybe someone here will make an offer on the H.E. Target, thus saving me from taking it to the gunshow.

You'll certainly sell it if you post it in the For Sale section. You might even sell it to someone for what it's worth if you refuse to be haggled!! It isn't like there are box cars full of super spiffy M&P Targets for sale out there.

Maybe I will do that. I believe this M&P Target belongs in a collection.
