Exclamation Another Victory For the Database

Hello,

New here, just recently acquired a Victory in pretty decent shape and will be requesting the S&W $50 letter shortly but thought I would add it to the database and get an idea of it's approx age. Thank you!

V83498
Has WB acceptance marks, United States Property, 38 S&W.
Would love to know approx ship date on this please.

Hello Don:

Welcome to the Forum!

You have a beautiful Victory Model there. Thank you for posting the info so that my collaborator, LWCmdr45, and I can add it to the Victory Model Database. From the Database I can estimate for you that your revolver likely shipped from the factory in the August, 1942 time frame.

I hope that when you get your factory letter you will post the info here so that the details can be added to the Database.

Thank You very much for the info. I will most definitely post any info gleaned from the letter when received.

Again thank you for your insight, much appreciated.

dondoucette, nice revolver!
Hopefully you won't mind a slight hijacking of your thread, but I have a couple more Victory's that ordnanceguy may want to add to the database:

S/N: V526217 (5" .38 S&W)
S/N: V531790 (4" .38 spl)

The 5' is stamped US property and has the typical British markings throughout, but the 4" isn't property marked and has only one very small stamp on the frame just forward of the back strap, about parallel with the cylinder release (if I recall correctly).

No photos or letters yet, but I may have to fix that pretty soon.

Default Info on my Victory ?

I have a Victory model that has been around my family for longer than I can remember. My Dad was the fire chief in our town and was also a Pacific Theater Marine in WW II--Guadacanal/Pelieu. I don't know whether he got this S&W as Fire Chief or Marine, but it's been around the house since the early 1950's.

Smith & Wesson --on left side of barrel
38 S&W special ctg --on right side of barrel
round Smith and Wesson logo --on right side plate
Made in USA--on right frame above and forward of trigger guard
Swiveling lanyard ring (oblong) on butt
V --on butt forward of lanyard ring
428368--on butt aft of lanyard ring
428368 --on rear of cylinder
428368 --on barrel under ejection rod
79736 --on crane
79736 --on frame inside crane
smith & wesson Springfield Mass and several patent dates --on top of barrel
US PROPERTY GHD -- on top strap
screw in frame in front of trigger guard
screw in grip frame in front of grips about 1/2 inch above butt
smooth wood grips
gray parkerized finish
Case colored hammer
grooved trigger
Circle (like a screw?) just below the cylinder release latch --on left side of frame

Can anyone give me info on the revolver?

Sherco:

With the complete serial number and your detailed description I can tell you the following info taken from the Victory Model Database which my pal LWCmdr45 and I administer.

Your revolver was likely shipped from the factory in the October, 1943 time frame. It was likely a US Navy shipment.

Hope that helps you.
