Default 38/44HD Postwar Transition

This 38/44 came to me from a good friend at the
OGCA show this past weekend. Serial number
S65165, The condition is around 85% and everythings
correct but the grips. I have several 38/44's but this
is my first transition model, now I just have to find the
transition outdoorsmen.

S&W's postwar transitional models are some of the most interesting revolvers the company ever made. Congratulations on adding one to the stable.

Nice catch GJ, transition N frames are fun to hunt! I have S65402, a 38/44 HD 5" converted to 45HD by Ham Bowen (now bearing ivory!) Seems to me that transition 4" HD's are more abundant than 5-inchers while the 5" 44HE's outnumber the 4-inchers. Go figger.
Enjoy!

Nice shooting iron! I love HD's - especially transitional models. That looks like a good one. Thanks for the pictures,

Jerry

By the way, S65122 shipped Aug of 1946.

Very nice, beautiful stocks and a 5" to boot. I have a 4" with a SN only a few hundred away from yours, they are special guns representing a special time for S&W.

George,
Nice catch! It appears that the 5" transitions are harder to find than the 4". Enjoy it!

My transitional 38/44 HD is approx. 300 numbers earlier than that shown and letters to a July 1946 ship date to El Paso.
Not a better shooting 38 out there. Got to love the HD.
