Default Price check on a heavy duty.

It was made in 1949 and is about 95% without box or docs. It's 6 1/2 and is blued. Haven't been able to look under the grips yet as I haven't handled it yet. A good guess or two will be appreaciated.

Charlie, I'll leave the worth to the experts( Bill Patteson comes to mind) but I sure would like to find a 1949 ( my birth year) HD or K22, seems like I've been looking all my life. Either gun fund is low or just can't find one

Charlie as I understand it the 6-1/2 HD is the hot ticket, I'd be afraid to venture a $$ guess not knowing anymore about them than I do, I'm interested to see what the HD guys have to say, even more interested in seeing it if you manage to pull it off

Charlie, better off asking in the pre 61 section, seeing that it's a 49 vintage and all the "heavies" hang there.

I don't have an exact answer for you. I own a 5" Pre-War Heavy Duty (mfd. 1937) that has been valued between $700-$800. I know that the 6.5" HD is considered to be more scarce. So alot would depend on condition and the market. I don't think $800 would be unreasonable. Lately it seems that interest in the HD's has grown.

Where are some of our intrepid SWCA folks?

Hell, I've never seen one. And never heard of one, outside of Raymond Chandler novels. And here.

Charlie, I found mine - an old Washington State Patrol gun (~80% finish) with most of the WSP rollmark polished off the backstrap a couple of years ago in a very out-of-the-way, back country shop. I considered my self lucky to buy it for $450. I would guess what you're looking at would be worth at least double that price.

Hopefully Bill will be along soon with a better answer for you.

Jerry

It was sold for $1,200.00. I didn't buy it.

I would not take $1200 for mine. I got it a year ago at the Colo Collectors show. Shipped March 1954. I was not as lucky today. Not much there to get excited about in the line of Smith's.

That was the price range I had in mind-trlansition 6.5 HDs are scarce. Did you by chance get the serial number?
Bill
