1948 Nickle 2" M&P
I wanted to share pictures of an interesting post-war M&P I picked up at an auction last week. I have wanted a 2” K-frame for a while and I prefer 5-screws so this one appealed to me. I just like the history and old-school craftsmanship. This one is serial number C3864 (yes, that is the right number of digits) so I’m guessing it was shipped in 1948. It has the one line address and is not drilled for a lanyard ring. The nickel is original and the numbers match. It has a little freckling and some wear on the left side of the barrel. The worst thing is the “pawn shop” engraving on the side but for $250 I can live with it. It came with Franzite imitation stag grips and I put my best spare set of magna’s on it for now. I’m looking for a nice set of diamond magnas (or maybe a set of black plastic magnas). Is there anything potentially interesting I might would find if I lettered this gun? I don’t really care if it was shipped to a distributer. I would be interested in it had a police or military history but I assume this was just a commercial product.

Nice find. You never know about what will turn up with a factory letter, but as you know the chances are very high it went to a commercial source, less likely law enforcement and as a nickel 2" gun almost certainly not to the military.

At $250 I'd have been on that like white on rice.

What it needs are silver-medallion small grips. A 2" barrel is too
small of a gun for magna stocks, I think.

Good find!
I bought a really nice one (no box) just like it a while back; the first thing my business partners father said after seeing it was "that's pretty snazzy...looks like something Boston Blackie would have used", so besides the craftsmanship they also have that vintage cool factor even someone who's not a gun guy can understand!

I agree with Mike, small medallion grips would look best on this. Man, for that price I would have ripped my pocket getting the $$$ out.

Very nice bugmans! I have a similar nickle 4" from the late 1930's. Mine has an N under the grips and the serial number on the fram, cylinder and under the barrel. The number under the barrel starts with CN though. The frame and crane have an assembly number. I hope this helps.
