close S&W Mod. 50 Parts List

Did the S&W Mod. 50 come with a parts list designated for Mod. 50 and picture of the Mod. 50?

No. They came with a M36 parts list.

i saw a 50 one time in a 36 box that was marked "TAR" with some kind of marker, on the printed end. i have wondered if it was original.

This may be the one you saw. It is an interesting gun in that the box lists it as a Chiefs Special Model 36 and it is marked "TAR" on the box. However, the gun is not model marked 36, which started in 1957 but the gun shipped in 1961. As with many S&W's, there are always exceptions to the rules. I have no reason to doubt the box is original as the gun was purchased from the original buyer.
