The records of S&W for the years, 1932-1934, have been completed and can be searched for information. These years are in addition to the years, 1935-1941.

If anyone is interested in having their gun researched, you should follow the instructions on the S&WHF website. We have had great success researching Registered Magnums as S&W kept quite a few documents on these guns, but our success with other models has been hit and miss.

There is no charge if we look up your gun and don't find anything.

We will continue to digitize and index the records of S&W (beginning with 1931 and working back to approximately 1920) that are housed at the Museum of Springfield History as funding becomes available. The Board of Trustees is currently discussing ways to raise additional funds, but it is a difficult and lengthy process.

That is great news indeed. I have a few guns that fall into that time span (and a few for the other years already digitized). All I need to do now is join up and submit some SN's. Just a heads up for anybody thinking about joining, I bought a nice 2nd model K22/40 that came with some neat documentation from the SWHF. It really adds to the whole package. I plan to join asap (if not sooner).

with what I though was a mod.10, but the serial number 4787xx and no model marking on frame at the crane makes be wonder what she picked up, has a 2 inch barrel installed and came with a 6 barrel marked same as frame, also has patent dates from 1901 to 1914 w/ different days and months, smith and wesson stamped on left side of barrel, 38 s&w special ctg on right side of the same 6 inch barrel, clyinder has a slight plum color, and barrel is pinned, 4 side plate screw, and front crane screw, has walnut checkered grips with brass screw, also want to make sure it will handle standard ammo before I give it back to her, or is it to valuble for it to sit in her file cabinet and rust away, because it probaly will.

Model numbers not used until 1957. If that 487 number is the serial it dates to early/mid 1920s.

They made millions of them so unless in perfect condition with the original box and signed letter from J. Edgar Hoover that he owned it, no, it's not too rare or valuable to shoot.

Service records are included. I have found quite a few records for guns that have been returned for repair or alteration. Shipping invoices, correspondence with the factory, etc.

The only gun I have that might even remotely be worthy of such an inquiry would be my UHP RM. But I can only imagine the cost given I know it was returned for rebuilding so there could be several pages of work orders or other documents at $5 a pop on top of the initial $60 fee... ouch.

Sometimes I wish I was rich. Not often, just every once in a while.
