New to me 1905 4th change M&P
I have several deputies that do understand and appreciate the beauty of blue steel and wood, and the elegance of a Smith and Wesson revolver. Of course, these few employees know their boss is a sucker for Smith revolvers..and one of my Lieutenants walking in carrying this 1905 4th Change, serial number 557454. Finish is probably 90% from honest wear, no rust, pits, bore is perfect...locks up tight like you know a Smith should....all numbers match, including the grips.
I know 1905 4th Change revolvers in used condition take up a lot of bandwidth here, and there is nothing special about this one, other than it is now mine.
I will clean it up and wax it this weekend....and get some trigger time with it just to let it know that someone still cares...

Nice one!
It took me a while to warm up to the 1905s, Victory revolvers, and long action postwar M&Ps, but once I did I wondered how I resisted their appeal for so long. I have no master plan to acquire them, but every so often one jumps up in front of me and asks to be taken home. I usually oblige.
They really are fine pieces of machinery.

That is right nice, I would keep it had I gotten ahold of it first.

ColbyBruce, my shift commander today KNOWS that by walking one into my office it is just about good as sold...the sideplate has never been off of it, and there are no marks on the recoil shield...I doubt it has been shot much at all....
I am thinking about giving my birthyear Model 10 no dash to my son for Christmas, and keeping this one...or cleaning this one up and giving it to him....decisions, decisions....

Younger guns for younger people, classics for classics. Give your son the 10 and put this one on duty for yourself.

I agree with what David said Sheriffoconee. Besides, I believe you and I both eluded to that in the beanie baby controversy of yesterday. Nice looking 1905. I sure like mine. Yep classic for classics. Nice grab you made.
regards

Sounds like a plan.....I think he would rather have the 10 anyway...it is "new" and he will take good care of it....this ol' timer needs me as much as I need it....
On a side note, I 'spect the boys at the crime lab have never pulled a police fired 38 caliber bullet out of a bad guy before....imagine their surprise...they would probably have to call some retired firearms guy to ask him what kind of bullet it was....

Sheriff, let me warn you about giving your son a gun...he will only ask for more of them. I bought the limited edition brushed nickel #2214 in the bottom of this photo about twenty years ago for my son, when he was five years old.
He has since gotten a HK P7 PSP, Beretta 84BB, S&W #36, Glock 17, Glock 19, numerous rifles and shotguns from me over the years. In two weeks, he will receive this S&W #66-2 for his twenty-fifth birthday.
This gets rather expensive, and is difficult for me to keep up on a lowly government salary.

You should have been at the office the other day...a lady came to the SO and asked for me, and in her pink shoulder bag she had about 50 pencil flares, and three pencil flare launchers....look like zip guns with a screw in flare....just pull the striker back and watch it launch...
Well, her husband had passed and she found them and wanted to get rid of them, so she gave them to me...but before she left we launched one of the flares in the parking lot of the jail....
Fun was had by all......she wants to bring me this giant, portable, self inflating raft soon...she says she doesn't need it....

A truck load......
I started buying guns for my son right after he was born..he has no idea what I have put away for him....not to mention he gets most all of it when I am gone....I guess I need to hold some back for some (anticipated) grandchildren....I hadn't thought that far ahead!!!!!

"she wants to bring me this giant, portable, self inflating raft soon...she says she doesn't need it...."
Be careful she doesn't bring any other "inflatables" along.......
Back in 1976 I was visiting a fellow construction worker in his Dad's house. His Dad as a San Antonio, Texas cop.
A woman walked into the police department and handed over two handguns saying her husband was gone and she wanted them out of the house.
The Cop, my friend's Dad, said he would be glad to dispose of them properly. He canned the cheap .25 auto and brought home the pristine WWI Luger..........
WAYBACK then I said, "I wanna be a Cop!" But I only wanted the guns, not all the other hassles........

Excellent thread! My son has my 2.5" 66-7 and my 18" 20 ga Mossberg security setup. I'm lookin' at a deal on a 439 for him, and tryin' to think up some way to get the 66 back. Realistically, he has full access to the whole pile, and has built his personal ar. When he was a kid, he used to take one of the ars up to the lake for the 4th of July and shoot up all my ammo. Those were the days! Now we can go across the road from his house and have home ballistics in a big ol' gravel pit.
I used him for years as my 'resize, punch & flareneck' technician. He out grew that in fairly short order. We load lots of ammo. All single stage.
I need to learn more about the 1905s. I think they are among the handsomest revovlers ever built. I have a late war Victory that shoots like crazy. It is my best .38, and looks like was forgotten about for about 60 years. It is somewhat beat up, but is a good revolver.
I'd be interested in reading more stories about guys and their kids and their guns. Jes' makes me feel good inside, ya know?

I enjoyed shooting my 1905 this weekend. 50 LSWC and 24 of my handloads showed me this ol gun had what it takes to earn a trip to Atlanta today on my side. I do love a 38 revolver.
