Date of Manufacture needed -
The revolver is a 38 S&W Hand Ejector with a no model number inside the yoke, and a "mushroom" ejector rod. Definitely pre WWII, but that's about all I can tell.
I've attached photos. The serial number is on the butt, 504131, with no letter prefix or suffix.
Let me know if some other information is needed.

Welcome! A similar gun with a close SN came up for discussion recently and 1926 was the consensus year. Hope this is helpful.

From the info provided, I would say 38 Hand Ejector M&P Model of 1905 4th Change. If the grips are correct and numbered, 1920s era. Best

I have reasonably close SNs listed which shipped in 1924 and 1925, but I also list one nearby M&P SN which shipped in 1927. That's just the way it happens, as S&W did not ship in SN order. I'd say manufacture would have been in 1924.

According to the SWCA database, 1925 is almost guaranteed to be the ship date, since six close serial numbers above and below yours all shipped that same year. Isn't it interesting that all these SWCA members are not using the SWCA database???

Isn't it interesting that I just joined this site and have no idea how I could have stumbled into this database? Maybe some direction for newbies is in order.
So, and I'm sure to be embarrassed by the reply explaining what should be obvious, how do I access this database??? And, sarcasm aside, thanks for alerting me to its existence. I need all the help I can get.
My wife would agree with the last sentence. Unfortunately, she's usually right.

Sorry B.H., but I neglected to note that you have to be a Smith & Wesson Collectors Association member, which is a level up from standard membership. Smith & Wesson Collectors Association

I seriously doubt that tha caliber is ".38 S&W"w ith a manufacture date that early. So far as I know, the only hand ejectors built in .38 S&W caliber before the British contracts at the beginning of WWII were the Regulation Police models, and the revolver in question loos like a M&P to me so the caliber has to be .38 S&W Special, if it is a .38.

My M&P Model of 1905 Fourth Change, caliber .38 S&W Special, serial number 5095XX shipped June 2, 1925 according to Roy G. Jinks, if that helps. The finish is not in very good condition but it shoots better than I can!

I wouldn't always assume the worst of people .
I don't see an indication that the OP meant to present the gun as a ".38 S&W" caliber, but I and apparently everyone else read it as a "S&W Hand Ejector" in .38, which by the way is how the caliber was usually referred to in company literature; the Special was only added in the fine print.

Yet I show SN 5042xx as shipping in 10/27. But I do agree that a 1925 shipping date is statistically more likely.

Sorry I was so casual about the chambering on this revolver. The barrel stamp reads * 38 S&W Special CTG*.
Really appreciate all the info.
