An old horse dragged me back into wheel guns.
I was recently handed this by a friend, now it's up to me to make it whole again. Don't know what it is about these old guns but something makes me want to embrace them.
As you can see the gun is missing some parts. Any help the viewer can offer in locating these will be greatly appreciated. Left grip, grip screw, mainspring, mainspring tension screw, barrel pin, and there's a screw in front of the trigger guard, 5th screw I've heard, the one that holds in the cylinder stop spring and plunger, are all missing.
Very cool old gun, I've read that the serial number dates it a 1940.
Thanks for looking and also for any help you may be able to offer!

Wish I had a friend like that! You should be able to buy most of the parts you need from Numrich or Brownell's. If not, there are probably members of this forum that will help. Good luck!

You have a pre-war .38 Outdoorsman. Parts can be difficult to find. Try Poppertsgunparts.com, or Numrich. It's an N Frame, so parts from any pre-war N frame will fit. Good Luck, Ed.

I don't know these old guns but would that be a 38/44 Heavy Duty target model? Cool old gun whatever it is.

I am thinking if it was a 357 it would have the rib from receiver along sight radius and full top checkering along that too on a magnum.... nice friend and revolver!

Try Jeff Lee at Lee's Gun Parts in Irving, TX. Jeff just acquired several boxes of old Smith parts. His phone is 972.790.0773. He is only open on Tues., Wed., and Thurs. and if he is busy, you may have to call several times since he is a one man shop.
