When I bought this pistol from a family friend it had a 8 3/8 inch barrel. He said when he bought the pistol new it carried a 3 1/2 inch barrel. He sent it to Smith and Wesson to have an 8 3/8 inch barrel installed. I asked him where the original barrel was and he said he gave it to a friend back in 1960. Oh well.
After this friend passed away the family gave me a box of his gun stuff. You know, old sights, sling swivels, that sort of things. Well low and behold there was this little barrel amongst all the other stuff in the box. Serial numbers match. So yesterday with the help of a pin punch and a frame wrench I changed it back to the way God intended it to be.

Here's mine just after I acquired it, with wonderful non slip grips! I since found a pair of diamond magna's that are within 200 of the serial number. Shipped in November 1952. It now alternates wearing the magnas with Kurac's birds eye maple presentation coke style grips.

Two More 3-1/2" RMs from My Collection
Here is the best I have been able to come up with in a 3-1/2" original (but well used) RM: REG 745, in the two pictures on the left. The next one is a highly modified RM (at least four times back and forth to/from the factory): REG 2330, in the two pictures on the right. The REG 2330 started out as a 5" blue model with no other special features.
