Default 38/44 Outdoorsman Question

I recently have run across a 38/44 Outdoorsman in excellent condition, 6.5" barrel. Serial number is in the 140000 range. It has a white box with blue stamped lettering, all that is visible in the picture is the end of the box, doesn't seem to match up with the apparant 55-56 year range, unsure if they shipped N framed 38's in a special box. It has another issue that seems a bit confusing, it has the red ramp front sight associated with later pistols. Any info would be appreciated, Thanks

The box sounds like something made up. The red ramp front sight was available as early as 1952 (probably earlier) and could be original since the serial number dates the Outdoorsman to mid- to late 55. However, it is probably a replacement for the original Patridge front sight.

Default Box Question

The box is the typical Gold/Blue combo. The picture is just washed out. Gun is bright blue, but finish on ramp/base is very dull, and at least the blade pin looks like it's been moved. Only way to verify would be a letter, and I don't think the owner is that patient.

Thanks Jim, Pictures of the pistol are on the Spokane Gun Trader site. The owner has changed the pictures once and changed the information, I do agree that he is probably impatient and ready to move the pistol. I'm just trying to do a little horse trading and think the Outdoorsman is an interesting piece.

I just picked one up about 3 weeks ago . S/N S1047XX . Very nice shooter . Mine has the usual partridge front . I agree correct box would be blue / gold . If it's priced right , in good mechanical shape & you want one to shoot why not .
