S&W M1917 moon clips and pouch
I recently acquired a really nice S&W M1917 and I am looking to complete the needed accessories. I am looking for a source for half moon clips that are as close to original as possible and made of proper spring steel. I have seen many vendors of clips but it is unclear which ones would be closest to historic accuracy and have the proper spring steel. Additionally, I am trying to find a source for a US made canvas moon clip pouch; the one that holds six half moon clips. Most of the online sources obscure the country of origin. Are there any US based manufacturers of these?

Hayes Outopolick. I just bought a near mint M1917 GI 4 digit revolver and was looking for the same items. 99% of them are new mfg. Be careful. Big Larry

There is an individual on the Forum that is selling 1/2 moon clips. They are the real thing. I got some from him and I am well pleased. They are also becoming somewhat scarce at gun shows, etc. As for the pouch, eBay may be your friend here, but be aware that well over half of the ones I see listed are modern reproductions. So, bid prudently. Last I looked, the pouches were about $100.00. I would post a WTB listing here on the Forum. The odds that you get a real one are very high, as the members here are generally quite honest and know what they have.
A challenging find for these is an original box of .45 ACP in moon clips.

Hayes has the original boxes of 1/2 moon clipped vintage 45 ACP, but well over $300 a box. That stuff is very hard to find. Thanks to a Forum member, I got a minty 1917 Lanyard, no charge. I will be making a shadow box this weekend for my M1917 and accoutrements. Big Larry

The ammo pouches I have purchased have been made in India. They are well-made and do the job. They cost a lot less than $100 each.

Sorry, but I cannot justify putting a $20 fake pouch into a shadow box with a 99% 4 digit M1917. Thanks, Big Larry

It's a sickness. I got the revolver. OK now I need an original holster, web belt, half moon clips and pouch, Original 1918 ammo etc etc.

Good luck finding original WWI or WWII holsters and pouches. The canvas didn't hold up too well in most cases, unless someone found a stash of NOS. If you're looking for some good reproductions, check out World War Supply and SARCO, Inc. A lot of military reenactors pick up their uniforms and accessories from these guys.

The original stuff is still available out there, but it is becoming somewhat harder to find. Patience will be your friend. I suggest you post in the WTB area here on the forum.....
