Default My first k 22 masterpiece. I am in love.

One I have wanted for awhile came in the shop the other day and followed me home. From what I can tell it was made in 1947, has the "Made in USA", and a tapered rib. I do not believe the grips match the gun but I will check again. There is an unusual "cut out" in the grips that may have been for a small plaque or something. I do not know but it looks cool. The weapon came out Eastern Kentucky back in the 80's at "Court Day." I just wanted to share 'cause I have been fondling this puppy since I got it. Here are some pics and I can see why these weapons are so loved.

I am in love.

Get you a good old leather holster with as much wear on it as the gun and shoot it the rest of your life.

You have as good of a rimfire revolver that was ever made.

Now... all you need is another one, and a 4 inch one and maybe a 617...

I know....I feel my feet slipping... Has anyone ever seen a cutout like the one in my grips? It looks well done. I need to find a vintage 40's holster. I wanted it because it was a shooter and I knew if I got one of these vintage LNIB it was just sit in a safe. Now I need one LNIB to keep with this one. Word is getting out locally that this is the shop to trade a S & W revolver to because "that guy is plumb crazy about Smith's."

Great to see you've picked one up you've had a yearning for.

K22's are addictive. I had my first one in the early 80's brand new, sadly it was stolen and never recovered.

I went for 30 year's telling myself one day I'd get another. That day came along about a year ago when I found a 1948 in about the same condition as yours. I'm plumb fool about it.

Then, this past week I called some of our local shops and was asking about S&W's. One told me.."Yeah, gotta .22 revolver". Hummmm...the lady couldn't tell me anything but that. I headed over to look at it soon as I was off work. Poor old gun had been neglected badly, non-factory grips but it IS a K22. The cylinder crane was almost rusted shut, most of the bluing gone and someone named Charles C. had stenciled his name on the side. I couldn't stand it, the gun deserved better! So I about broke my elbow reaching for my wallet when qouted a price...yes, I stole it...and I mean stole it. :-)

After several hours of cleaning, a little tinkering and scubbing it runs like it did years ago. Oh, and now for the really neat part. The serial number is only 35 numbers apart from the one I bought last year...awesome.

It's marked Colorado Saddlery. According to some of the more knowledgable folks here on the forum, the Heiser family sold the company at one point, and some of their employees went out on their own and started Colorado Saddlery.

indiuckian, very nice looking gun. If you love it now just handling it wait until you shoot it! I haven't seen a cut-out like that on a grip but I would be tempted to make or have made something to fit in there, a small scrap of ivory with a design might look nice. Did you check to see if the grips number to the gun?

Its all over 'cept the cryin...I took my latest K-22 out the other day and the gold bead is terrific. I'm only looking for shooters with minimal wear/usuage, someone will have to hold me steady if I ever come across a minty 5 screw with MADE IN USA.

Nice find...

PMret: love that holster - did you make it? Had one similar for a Hi-Standard Double Nine. No longer have the gun and I carved up the holster to fit something else (I think) Will have to search for it later.
