Default S&W Model 32 Terrier

I recently acquired this old .38 S&W Model 32 Terrier from an old friend and was wondering what it's D.O.B. might be and also what it may be worth. I would say it's in "fair" condition with light rust and some pitting. The serial number on the butt is #665xx

Pictures would help with evaluation, but as for Shipping Date, it should be about 1953+/- based on that SN. I'm guessing it would probably have a round trigger guard with a screw in the front, have 4 screws in the side plate (one may be hidden by the top of the grip) and have a ramp type front sight. If the grips are original, the SN should be stamped inside the right side panel. Oh yeah, it should be a coil spring action, determined by the lack of a strain screw in the bottom front of the grip frame, or visually if you remove the grip panel to check for SN. How'd I do for not seeing the gun?

duncanranger, here is one not too far from yours and it is late 1950 so 52-53 as stated is probably a good bet. If you want to know for sure though, send for a factory letter.
Regards
Chuck

In rough-ish condition and with the incorrect upper sideplate screw, from the one photo I'd say that this is a $250-$275 gun depending upon where you are and assuming the stocks are numbered to the gun and there are no other issues. This would be a retail price, and is not a solicitation to buy.

I think it makes a great carry gun. Nice and compact.
Maybe not elegant, but certainly business-like.
Mines about a year later, but basically the same gun.
I really enjoy it. TACC1

Gee Froggie,
I'm beginning to think that you're clarvoyant. You were dead on except for the sight. Good call.

Duncan,

You have a 38 Terrier as stated built on the 'Improved I frame' as collectors would categorize it, which evolved into the Model 32 in 1957.
I agree with Drew on value. It has about 50% original finish when compared to the grading photos in the front of the Blue Book of Gun Values. It's a great shooter or carry gun that you don't have to worry about marking up.
