A 3 digit Pre-17 was sold on GB last night.....the sale included a S&W "salesman's sample" blue case.

Question to those that are familar with these saleman's cases........do they add more value vs having the correct box, tools and papers???

I also, found it interesting that the seller added a correction to the description, about 4 hours before the auction ended, saying the stocks did not number to the gun. This did not seem to deter the final bidders as the winning bid was made after the corrected description.

Correct grips for one that early would be the 'sharp shoulder' style. Those grips are a few years too young. Neat package none the less.

I was watching that one too. I knew it would go high. She has wonderful collections that she sells and some great finds. You do pay a price for them.

I'm not going to say it was an outstanding bargain price, but its a nice gun at a fair price for what it is. Remember, there were only about 900 of the 3 digit serials made. Who knows how many of those have survived the ravages of time, the elements, and the political atmosphere. One view (mine) is that 3 digit Masterpieces are just as rare as 2nd Model guns. Our posters here seem to have cornered a bunch of both. I could stand to own another of each. Someplace I could make that much room to store them. I hope the winner enjoys his gun as much as I enjoy mine.

That seller has a lot of guns listed and if you read his descriptions they are usually quite different than the pictures. I have a 'list' next to my computer and he is on it.
