.38/200 "K200" question
I've been OD-ing on Victory and K200 info lately and have a quick question.
I understand that civilian purchases during the war had to go through the DSC for the Victory models.
Was the same true for the K200?
I came across a 38 S&W with a V119*** serial number, but no military markings anywhere, but with the lanyard loop.
Thanks!

The British Service Model was not offered for sale on the commercial market or through the DSC.
A .38 S&W with V-prefix serial but no military markings was scrubbed.

I have been on the lookout for a decent K38/200 and let a few slip by. The ones I saw did not have the V prefix on the serial number and had normal
bright bluing

Absalom, how do you mean "scrubbed"? This one has no markings but was purchased by the British Purchasing Commission.

Saw one yesterday with only US Property on the top strap and a P below the rear sight, lt. side. The butt swivel had been removed. A run of the mill Lend Lease piece I suppose.
V prefix, 5", 38 S&W.

Production of the model for the British started in 1940 in the upper 600-thousands.
There are many pre-Victorys in .38 S&W with the pre-war finish and stocks, up to the low 900-thousands.

Indeed. Most BPC-purchased guns did get British acceptance stamps, but not all, so a completely clean one like yours isn‘t unusual.
But by the time of the V-serials, all BSR’s went through Lend-Lease and had US property and ordnance markings.

Interesting, this one has escaped into the wild somehow. What did they do with "Scrubbed" guns?
I'm waiting to make sure the barrel has the same serial number.
Thanks
