Default a question for the Victory Database

I have been looking over your shoulders for sometime and I am ready to ask another two questions.

The highest number Pre-victory with a known shipping date I have observed is 997546 which shipped May 25, 1942 to the U.S. Maritime Commission. What is the highest (Pre-V.) serial and date you have captured?

Similarly, excluding V1-V5, what is the earliest, to the field, information known about a (V marked) Victory.

I hope I framed the question properly and I do appreciate what you guys are doing.

Thanks.

Charlie Flick keeps the best data base on these guns, so he may chime in here sooner or later. I know 999890 in my collection, was shipped July 7, 1942, to the Ford Motor Co., Dearborn, Mich. 999646 left S&W, June 21, 1942, for the Duriron Co., Dayton, OH. As you can see, shipping date and serial numbers are not sequential, as 997546 shipped May. 25th. Serial number 1,000,000 never shipped. It is still in the factory collection at the CVHM. V 16 shipped June 2, 1942, to Hartford Ordnance for the Brits. I believe V 8 is in a collection, but I don't know the ship date. maybe Charlie does. Ed.

Waidman:

The Victory Model Database, which my pal LWCmdr45 and I maintain, records that 999,999 was shipped on April 24, 1942.

The earliest ship date that the Victory Database shows for a gun after V1-V5 is V16 which shipped on June 2, 1942, as noted earlier by my friend Ed. V6 is in the Database without a recorded ship date. V8 is not in the Database, but should be.

Hope that answers your questions.
