first kit gun
went to the geo brown gun show in houston this morning and got this 1955 kit gun for $380.
this scratched more than one itch as it is my first kit gun, i frame, and flat latch. very tight action.
can't wait to shoot the little guy!
thanx to Ditrina for my first photo w/the gifted prop rod.

Fine looking Kit Gun, great price too. Our Kit prices seem to be $100.00 higher here, you did well and have a nice shooter to boot!

I thought they said "Everything is bigger in Texas." That's an awful small little thing for a true son of the Lone Star State to carry, and the price was pretty small as well. I guess that old boy didn't want to be seen in possession of such a sissy gun! What you need to do before your reputation is totally ruined is send it to me at...
Seriously, nice find at a very good price... they're going for about $50-100 more than that here in VA as well. Just be careful, your friends may make fun of you and ask if you're taking up bird watching and stamp collecting too!
Regards,
Froggie

We were just talking about those last night. My buddy Joe has serial #237, and I'm stuck with the devils gun itself, #666.

Well I'm happy for you and a lotta 1sts! You also got a 4 screw; the most screws you can have on a Model of 1953 Kit Gun.
You're not a true tiufiaksmatists* until you get hooked on Smith Kit Guns.
*Muscovites used firearms called "tiufiaks" (Russian: "тюф********к********", which were of Eastern origin; this word derives from Turkic "tüfeng", meaning "gun").
(Like coin collectors are numismatists: derives from Greek, meaning "of money")

nice little gun. i ran into my first kit gun about a year ago at a gunshow. i saw it sitting there in its blue box with all its tools and papers and asked the bored girl watching over the table to see it. when i saw the $300 price tag i started getting an eye twitch and talk in high pitch. bought it and scuttled out of there with it clutched in both hands to my chest. they are indeed sweet and shoot very nice.

This is not an uncommon misperception. But the Model of 1953 I and J frames had the trigger quard screw eliminated and therefore there can only be 4 and 3 screw Models of 1953.
Exception: Some early 1953 Airweight J frames had a locking screw on the upper sideplate screw which could be counted as a '5 screw' but not in the true sense of the term.
