Thread drift... you gotta' be kiddin' me, average condition gold K-22 boxes @ 150 plus?

I paid $100 for a 4 inch labeled Masterpiece box and thought it on the "leading edge" of pricing.

Wait... I gotta' go check... My box drawer is doin' better than my 401- K!

I purchased it! Remember, someone else wanted it for $154! You can always sell them again too. It is just Social Security money anyway so why should I care! My Ruger Tri-color box was $800! I would do it again in a second!

There are two versions of the K-22 gold boxes, an early and a late. The differences are on the side, not the ends. The lettering on the sides is in a "smooth" area on the early boxes, whereas the lettering is over the pebble texture on the late style. I am a Colt guy so what do I know, but I THINK the early style was only used for the first year or so.

Hello CoyoteHunter
As Other's have told you, Your gun should have shipped in a Gold Box like my 1947 K-22 shown below. My Pre-16 K-32 Masterpiece shipped in a Gold Box as well in July 1951 also shown below. Sometime in the mid 1950's when the gold box supplies dimminished they switched over to the solid border Pre-Bangor Punta style boxes like is shown with my 1956 Pre-17 K-22. The early solid border Blue mid to late 1950's span time period boxes are not as Plentiful as the older Gold boxes out there, so it should be no trouble locating a proper box for your 1950 K-22 to rest in...I hope this is of use to you...

Hello CJS57
I am Not sure if you would or not. The gun shipped in June 1956 with the earlier style upswept hammer it has and it is Not Model stamped which is Hard to find in a Four screw variation. S&W was not known to waste parts so Perhaps that is why it has that earlier style hammer in it as Target & standard style hammers were in use at that time span, so it is hard to say. I just liked it as I had not seen any other Four screw variations that are not model stamped, that's why I bought it and for it's complete total Package as it came with all the Paperwork, tools and even an original sales receipt dated 1958 from the shapleigh hardware company of St Louis, MO....
