Default Help with Value of a Model 48,

I was offered a Model 48 by an older gentleman. It is a 6" barrell, with original diamond grips, I dated it to early 1960 by SW catalog and it is a 4 screw gun. It has a few minor cosmetic issues so it is a shooter with no box or papers. I have never followed prices on this type to revolver so help with a fair price to offer a friend would be appreciated. Thanks Mike

Mike, last month I paid $329 OTD for a 6" Model 48. The manufacture date is 1974 and the gun is in excellent condition. This was a trade in at the local Gander Mountain store.

Yesterday at a central Florida gun show there was a 6" in similar shape to mine for sale for $695. I suspect that one will still be there at show's end.

Assuming your friend is not selling possessions to make ends meet a figure between $300 and $400 seems fair. After the deal you both should be smiling. Hope this helps.
Jeff

I think $300-400 is a low range for a 4-screw model 48, but since this sounds to be a private party deal you may be able to offer slightly less than collector/dealer prices - $400-450?
