Default S&W 1st Model HE 1896

When looking at pictures of these guns, it looks like something is engraved on many of the cylinders. If so, what is it and please show me some pictures. Are my old eyes playing tricks on me?

Its the equivalent of the top-of-the-barrel roll markings. On this gun,
they are are engraved onto the side of the cylinder, in the area
between the flutes. Company name, town, patent dates, etc.
