Default M&P Query...

Hello All....

Rookie question... I recently acquired a 4-screw 430XXX serial number Model 10 and was curious on when this revolver was produced. I'm pretty knowledgeable on long guns, but revolvers are not my forte. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance...

Welcome to the Forum. Being a 4-screw M&P the complete serial number is likely C430XXX and dates to the fall of 1958. In addition, it may have "MOD 10" stamped in the yoke cutout of the frame, visible when the cylinder is open. Model 10 is the number assigned to the Military & Police starting in 1957.

For an excellent tutorial you might might want to use the advanced search feature in this early hand ejector section. Use the tag model 10 and you'll find many posts with lots of information and pictures to enjoy.

Does your serial number have a "C" associated stamped on the butt? There is an early Model 1905, 4th Change with the same serial number range without the letter designation.

Then it can't be a Model 10. All Model 10s have letters in the serial.

A Military & Police Model made in the early 1920s might have a serial in the 430000 range, but not a Model 10.

Thanks to replying - that is why I ask the question and SaxonPig is correct in that you do not have a Model 10, you have a Model 1905, 4th Change. The SWCA database indicates your revolver was probably shipped in 1923 or 1924. Your gun is considered a K Frame.

Your revolver is a 5 screw design - when you count screws in the frame, you count the 4 that hold the sideplate on, but if you have Magna grips, one will be hidden by the top of the grip. The 5th screw is ahead of the trigger guard and is the bolt rod & spring.

Wood grips.... maybe original? They're a little rough. As for the age... I'm stunned. I have muskets that are only a little older than this revolver.

Thanks for all the help and info, I greatly appreciate it.
