Which way to go fro a birth year gun?
I've decided to find a revolver manufactured in my year of birth, why?, because, that's why.
All smartassery aside tho, which do you think I'd have the best chance of finding? There are a lot of possible models, but some more prolific than others; don't care if it's .38 only, so that opens up more possilities I think. I was born in 1950 BTW.
10? 65?, 15? or?
TIA

No model numbers in 1950. Prolific guns of that era are M&P's, K22's. K32's, and K38's. There are some N frames of the era, but I think your chances are way better with a K series revolver. I have a 1949 K-38 and a 1951 M&P. Nothing from 1950. Big Larry

Agree with Larry on the most common ones. You are also fortunate to be looking for a gun > 50 years old, as it will be easier to buy one from out of state legally. Also can't help you on the 1950 thing - try posting a Wanted to Buy on the Forum.

****, see, that's what I get for not thinking about when model numbers began. Need to do more homework.
Thanks much for the replies/info.

Pining it down may be tough for a C prefix M&P. 1948-1951 covers C1 to C223998. I suppose you can look at either side of center.
A K series is firmer, K84150-K104047, the target frame guns will be more expensive and rare.
The S series N frames my favorite, S75000-S80499.
I enjoy having a K frame M&P from the 1955 crop.

You can't go wrong with a K-22. You should have no problem finding one from 1950.

I found a K22 from 1960 (birth year). A much harder task than a K22 1950 gun.
Should be fairly easy if that's what you want. I just happen to love K22's.
I also bought a 4" 629 No-dash because my badge number was 629. I get it

There are a number of pistols like the 38/44 Model of 1950-Pre-Model 23, as well as .44 HE 4th Model Military (Model of 1950 .44 Military/Target. One of those types would really put the icing on the cake. If I ever run across a 38/44 HD or OD in my birthyear I will be in a fix for sure.

I would go for a pre-27 from that era. In 5 inch specifically.
Best of luck!

I'm a '1950' as well, so maybe I should jump in on this search.
.22 revolvers don't do anything for me, so I'll leave those for the others.
I'm thinking an N might be best, I miss my old M27.

This post reminded me of a birth year gun I found (thanks Sam) in Jan. My year is 1947 ... now that's a tough one and I never really gave a thought to finding one. I bought the gun, a K22 cause it had a 3 digit #. Once I had it, I realized it could very well be a 1947 gun. checked the ship data with Roy and WHAM, March 1947. The same month AND year I was shipped.
Now for the big one, do I letter it and find which day it shipped ???
I think I'm good not knowing.

I found my 1948 (birth year) M&P at an auction. I figured it was close so I rolled the dice and sent for a letter. My gamble paid off. If I have another that looks close I'll do the same thing. Everything matches.
Charlie, you not only get the day, but who it was shipped to as well. That could turn out to be a plus.

I think I'd go with a Combat Masterpiece. They don't get much better than that!

I lucked into my birth year gun. The first .44 Special Target Model of 1950 I bought was advertised at Old Town Station back in 1996. Favorite cartridge. A 5 inch gun, nonetheless. I lettered it to see if the barrel length was original. Not only was it, but the gun was shipped in 1952, my birth year, and to Salt Lake City, where I was born and have lived most of my life.
I don't believe in destiny, but...
