S&W H.E. Target Model 1955 in 45 acp
Just bought me self a Target Model 1955 in excellent condition serial S160453 does anyone know the approx shipping date for this gun. S&W were all over the map in that era when the 44 Magnum came out in 1956. I,m hoping it may have been ship in my birthday year like 1958. Maybe a member in here may have a better idea when it was shipped from the factory any info would be greatly appreciated.

Ship date
All my guns with numbers close to that are '56-'57--don't think it'll stretch to '58, but you need to get a ship date to be sure.

Rick, I JUST sold S161120. It was lettered and a 5 screw, 3 T version. Jinks letter said shipped to NY on Dec 27, 1957. Knowing that the 5th screw was dropped in 1956, it appears that mine was made on a 1955 or pre change 1956 frame. I hope this helps.

S160970 was shipped 01/16/59 to Williams Gun Sight Co. I haven't figured that one out yet---unless Williams was (or came to be) a distributor like Micro. Sat around for a spell, didn't it?!
