saturday afternoon i went by my brothers house where he had a 14 year old granson and 32 year old son in law, shooting at a small set of 5, 1.5" steel poppers , that they had set up in some plowed ground,

they where shooting these from about 25 yards with scoped black 22 cal rifles, one wasa m@p version and where missing as much as they where hitting the targets, after they quit they came up to where we where setting on the tailgate of my truck at least 40 yards from the target,

i asked the older one to hand me the old pistol out of my truck, and i hit the poppers 4 out of six shots offhand from the tailgate, that blew there minds, that a pistol could shoot that well, i was glad to introduce them to what a real gun was, they tried to shoot it with there new walther22s and could not comlete, with the old smith

Interesting story, those dinosaur guns sure can shoot. Could you provide any details about your gun? Looks like stainless steel without the full lug.

I have a 5 screw identical to your's.

I have always thought it was stainless.
Some have told me that s&w did not make stainless revolvers in early 50's.

How can I tell if stainless or chrome refinish that looks just like my ss 629?

And yes the gun is truly accurate and will astonish most.
Very nice revolver.
