Default Is this a K22 Masterpiece?

Local gun dealer has a K22 he says is a Pre-17. Serial # K152xxx and gun looks in verrrry good condition with 6" barrel and clean, smooth action. Wants $650 for it. Could someone tell me 1) the approximate year of manufacture; 2) is this the first or second model; and 3) is this the Masterpiece? If it checks out I intend to buy it.

Much obliged!

Sounds like a K22 Masterpiece from 1952.

Mine is about 7,000 after yours and shipped 12/28/52.

That particular gun is referred to as the 3rd Model K22. It is a K22 Masterpiece. There are other descriptions, but, they get confusing when they involve all the models and the pre war guns.

That is a good price for that model taking in to account your description of 'verrrry good condition'.

Went there this morning and bought it. Came with Pachmyer grips, not the originals, and looks in the same condition as yours, SaxonPig.

Got it OTD for $600 so I think I did OK.

And the dealer showed me another one he has from 1953 that looks to be near-mint condtion, I'd say 98%. Its not for sale, tho.

Anyway, many thanks for the info... Very much appreciated.

You did ok. It would have been nice if it came with the original numbered grips, but you can pick up a set of period correct grips and put on it easily enough. The K-22s are really popular and a lot of us here own at least one. Lots of fun and inexpensive to shoot. Congratulations!

As Misty said, you can find correct grips for your gun. You might also want to pick up a correct box as well. You can find either on ebay or possibly here on the forum if you place a WTB ad in the classifieds. Here's what you would be lookin' for.

I anticipate a K-22 in my safe before too long. What a nice piece! Great find Un4Given!
My LGS has one in "80% condition" for $525. It's a bit rough for my taste, but I want a fun, high quality 22lr revolver, so that might be ideal for me.

Congrats!

Great snag! Does it have a one line address on right side of frame like Fat Tom's?

Does it have the pre war 'barrel' shaped ejector knob or straight like Saxon's and Fat Tom's?

As I recall 1952 is pretty well into the 4 line addresses but towards the end of the taper barrel,
Do you know if its a "Heavy" Masterpiece with the wide rib?

You did well, pilgrim. As a comparison, I was at a gun show in OKC yesterday and talked with an individual that had a '53, very clean, faint turn line, box and correct grips, box numbered to the gun, for $825. (No... I didn't buy it - although I was sorely tempted. Spent my money on a 65-1, P&R 4" HB!!!)

It has a 4-line address and straight ejector knob.

Engine 49: Not sure if its the heavy rib or not. What do I look for to distinguish?

Was at the hunting camp this past weekend and everyone there fell in love with the gun: She's a sweet shooter!

You better watch out for the cops! You stole that gun, and the dealer is going to be PO'd, when he finds out. Around here that would be a $1000-$1200 gun. Nice catch. I'm green with envy.

Where, is right here in Montana. That's what they are asking for them at the local gun shows. $800 for one that looks like it spent a couple of hours in a concrete mixer. I don't know how many they are selling, but they don't drop their prices, or bargain over them. They seem to think someone will pay the price, eventually. I've been looking for a decent one, that I can afford, but I won't pay their prices, for the stuff they are selling.

Whelp... its definately a narrow rib.

Last month I decided out-of-the-blue that I wanted a S&W .22 revolver. So: I started researching new models, and then stopped in at my local dealer.

I knew nothing about K 22's prior to that day.

Found this site, did alot of surfing, and then posted this thread. Since then, everything I've learned about my gun has been thru this forum.

You folks are a great bunch, are very helpful, and sure do know how to make someone feel welcome.
