Default When was it made

I have a Smith and wesson M 1917 and was wondering when it was made. It a five digit serial number 74XXX. It came in a 1917 cross draw holster marked C 1917 A. G. on the back and 309 H 6 on the flap
I am told a photo is coming of that gun on a brown water patrol boat from 1962. It is signed inside the grip R. G. Sutherland Aug 11, 1937 and C. A. 1962.
Thanks for any help with age or history on this old war horse Thanks

Default United States Property

Yes its marked United States Property under the barrel and US Army Model 1917 No 74XXX on the bottom of grip frame , with lanyard loop.
Nice to hear its a possible two world war veteran. The Nam thing would also be cool but the grip dates don't match the info.
Thanks for the date help
