Default KCPD registered magnum - 1939

This gun, for sale on Guns International, with letter selling it to the Kansas City police in 1939, intrigues me. It has been listed for awhile now. Is it the refinished aspect that keeps it for sale rather than sold at that price?? Thanks.

I would say if the gun is truly "restored" as opposed to refinished, the price is reasonable. The photos provided in the ad are not adequate to discern all the necessary details. Perhaps the seller would send more photos.

I've emailed the guy in the past and got more pictures. The re finish job looks pretty good from my limited experience. A little noticeable on the side plate/frame fit but not bad. In his previous listing h said he would separate the gun from the grips and reduce the price by $500. I have seriously considered buying it over the last few months.

Ford's work is the best. I would say the price is certainly attractive. Many of the ".357s" purchased by the KCPD are either well used or have been refinished (as they were working guns). The seller lists a three day return policy so if the buyer doesn't like what he or she sees, the Magnum can be returned.

Yeah, well, I don't like small minded sellers shunning California sales.

A C&R pistol is legal in CA, it takes but a tiny bit of effort to register as an FFL selling there, and taking a stand against the gun laws in that state by punishing CA gun enthusiasts is just plain stupid.

I do not know the RM market.
Its very pretty but considering its refinished wont it be religated to being a "Shooter" as it will never be original.

I suppose if you collected KCPD guns and wanted one to shoot its a very attractive shooter but VERY EXPENSIVE "Shooter".

As an investment perhaps finding a collector grade gun and spending a little more is the wiser path?
I dunno maybe I am missing something?

I like collectable shooters. I have a KCRM because I really wanted it. I was willing to abandon fiscal responsibility to aquire it. The refinish on mine is horrible and the rear sights are replaced with micro click post war sights. It does not seem to matter much to me.

The one offered for sale is worth considering if one is willing to trade some money for the good feeling of having the gun. Shooting it would be very good for me. RM modifications are tolerated a bit more than modifications to other models.

Tough call on price. I really like the one I have. What is the purpose of money?

I gave 2K for my KCPD a couple years ago. Thought I did pretty good. I don't think it had been shot since being factory refinished in '52. All parts are original and as shipped except the grips. It was wearing the post-war diamond magnas (fitted to the pre-war frame) from when it was refinished. Now it wears pre-war magnas as it originally shipped.

Last nite I went to look at this gun on guns int. It was sold pending funds. The gun is local to me abt a 1 hour drive. Been thinking about it for 2 days and figured I'd call him up and take a look at it. What the heck, a KCPD is abt 2 g's and a Ford refinish has to be 3-400 with shipping. Plus the HB hammer and king site. Oh well, have to look for something else. I'm sure this post sold it for him. Hope someone here got it. Larry

I was disappointed but happy. At least being local, I could have checked it out. I would have bought the gun without the grips. Larry
