1917 Shortened Barrel?
Thinking about having the barrel of my 1917 (which is more of a shooter vs. collector) shortened to 3.5 inches. Who does this work? Want someone reliable. Thanks in advance.

David Clements in Woodlawn, Virginia shortened a 1950 Target .44 Special barrel for me. He cut it from 6 1/2" to 5". He did a great job.

Here's mine. It isn't actually a 1917, it is a Lew Horton special issue (the actual model number is 25-12). I sent it to Cylinder and Slide and they shortened the barrel and reset the front sight. I do not recall the price but it wasn't too bad. They don't keep your gun forever awaiting work. Once you place your order they notify you when they are ready to do the work and you ship it then. I had it back within a very reasonable time. I baby it but it gets carried a lot. Keep shootin' and check 6

ROB1109, No, the 25-12 had a round butt from the factory. However, I have had a M-57 butt changed from square to round. It was done by a different smith who is no longer in business. I think that Cylinder & Slide will do round butts. I think their web is "cylinder-slide.com" but not sure. Give that a try or google them, they have an extensive list of work they do. I have had other projects done by them and they do quality work. Keep shootin' and check 6
