Victory Model sans US Property markings
This is also one for the keeper of the Victory Model data base. SN: V 379262. 4" .38 Special with no proof markings or US Property/Inspector stampings. Is there any premium involved? What is the price range for unmarked Victory's?

Retired W4,
I don't know if this is of any interest to you, but I show that Serial No.'s V379251 & V379317 which are in somewhat close proximity to yours were shipped to the US Navy Supply Depot in Norfolk,Va. on 8/13/1943!!

Thanks for posting the data on your Victory. It will be incorporated into the Victory Model Database.
One question: Is there a flaming bomb mark on the butt of your revolver?

Guns like yours. w/o military markings or stampings, often letter as sent to the Defense Supply Commission for issuance to civilian police dep'ts and war plant guards, which can be some very exotic destinations, much rarer than a Navy shipped gun. Ed.

It could also have been shipped to the United States Maritime Commission. Regardless, it merits a letter.

Thanks for the reply about the absence of the ordnance bomb marking on the butt.
In my experience I have not detected any premium for Victory Models with without property, proof, inspection or acceptance markings.

I agree with Charlie, however with the comment that a non-military Defense Supply Comm. shipped gun, w/o the markings described, but letters to an interesting destination, and is stamped by that recipient's name, etc. can bring a premium from selected collectors. Examples would be guns owned by Warner Bros. Studios, Atomic Energy Comm., Civil Defense, Ford Motor Co., any law enforcement dep't., etc., etc. These have a much wider field of collectors besides S&W collectors. Some years ago I traded a Victory Model stamped Consolidated Vultee ( ConVair ) to a retired guard from WW2 era for Convair, for nice shotgun worth much more than the Victory model. Ed.

Thanks for the replies guys. I may just roll the dice and send for a letter. So far, most of my letters have produced positive results.
