Is there a source here (thread/link) illustrating which S&W box papers applied to which eras of pistols?

I searched and found a few thread with pictures but nothing definitive.

This style came in the box I bought for my 1953 K-22, but I'm not sure if it's correct for that era.

The nox-rust paper you have is too new for your revolver. The photo below shows paper from the 60s. It is similar to what you are looking for.

I think that's a later version of "vapor paper" than would be for a '53 revolver. I have a NIB Mod 586 with that style of paper and that would be into the '80's.
I just use plain brown wrapping paper in a gold box and call it close enough.:)

Here's a 1962 Mod 10 with "Nox Rust" that's original to this gun ...

... I don't know if there's any definitive timeline documented on what paper was used when.

Man when I first signed on here we hadn't even figured out what screwdrivers... oops! I mean Sight Adjustment Tools, where used
when! :D

From other threads I've searched, Doc44 seems to be recognized here as an authority, and I have confidence in his knowledge.

I'm learning what isn't correct, but I'd sure like to see a picture of what is correct early 1950's box paper.

The photo below shows the accessories and box for a k-38 Masterpiece that was shipped in January 1950. The muzzle brake is a later addition.

I also checked the contents of a box for a .357 Magnum shipped in 1952 and a 1950 Target 45 shipped in 1950. Each box had a large piece of brown tissue paper in it and no nox-rust paper (like the tissue in the box below). I don't know if this is all the boxes had in them. Maybe another member will have a box with other items in it that may help answer your question.

Thanks but, Bill, are you messin' with this rookie's head? :D

That tissue-looking paper doesn't seem similar to the Nox-Rust paper you posted above.

It doesn't appear to have printing or is it just to faint to see?

And does it have a thickness to it that's been treated to prevent rust?

Seriously, thanks again for your help.

The paper is tissue paper with no printing. I am not sure when S&W started using nox-rust paper. The earliest I have seen is what I posted and it dates to the early 60s.

I know S&W used to wrap their accessories in brown tissue paper, so why not the gun too?

Bill

Well, aged brown tissue paper sure will be a lot easier to locate! :)

thanks

This is a few years later than your gun -

but it's the paper that came with this boxed revolver.

Thanks
Do you have a picture of the paper itself. It's kind'a hard to see what, if anything, is printed on it.

I forgot I had this example of anti-rust paper. It was included in the box with a .357 Magnum that was shipped in October 1953. The paper was manufactured by the Nox-Rust Chemical Corp., Chicago 8, Illinois. The first example I posted was manufactured by the Nox-Rust Division of Daubert Chemical Co., Chicago 1, Illinois. Apparently, Daubert purchased Nox-Rust Chemical Corp at some point. This may be the paper you are looking for, but it is the only example I have seen and is nearly in shreds. Some later examples of nox-rust paper have ZIP codes instead of postal zones and most likely date to 1963 or later.

Heres a pic of my 1953 vintage K-22 with box and Nox paper. I believe this is the correct paper for the vintage. Hope this helps.

Thanks!

Hope you don't mind if I save that pic for reference purposes.

Do you have the cleaning tools for it, too?
If so, I'd like to see the bore brush.

Hey Doc, no tools or cleaning gear came with it, just the paper and the helpfull hints brochure. Feel free to keep the pic no copyright's here. Doc44's pic with tools looks good to me.
